Ergonomics Program– A Process Approach to Successful Implementation

Phil Van Ess is the Senior Manager of Safety and Security for Sargento Foods and has over 20 years of safety experience in the food and metal stamping industries and as a consultant. Phil earned his Bachelor Degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, his Master Degree from Silver Lake College, and is a Board Certified Professional Ergonomist. Phil lives in Two Rivers with Melissa, his wife of 21 years, and three teenage boys. Phil has been a youth baseball coach for 11 years and loves watching his kids compete in high school and college athletics and spending relaxation time casting for muskies on lakes in the Hayward area.

Program Synopsis The world of manufacturing is in constant change. It is a fast-paced and dynamic environment, having new technologies and robotics, while in the same room also having operations that haven’t changed in decades. The safety professional confronted with these challenges must take a process approach to ergonomic risk reduction with a focus on engineering safety in the new, and incremental change in the old. This program will contemplate a series of activities and methods designed to gain support within management and build momentum within the employee base to make real progress in ergonomics
